Our Mission
A changed world – where justice prevails and compassion drives humanity. From presidential press stories to the Billboard charts there resounds a desire for things to be different from the often cruel and harsh world around us. Poverty. Injustice. Violence. Fear. AIDS. Cancer. Failing Schools. Racism. Natural Disasters. We’re daily inundated with facts and images of how badly things are going. Yet over and above the noise of grave economic and social statistics we continue to hear the echoes of a voice drawing us to themes of justice, mercy, compassion, beauty and generosity. And we can’t seem escape them. If we deny them, they dog us all the more. If we donate a bit or buy a promotional t-shirt, the gnawings only become stronger. The echoes call us to do more – to be more.
As a community of faith we hear in the voice of Jesus the source of these echoes. We believe in and follow a God whose narrative tells a story of radical change. A story of hope, love, mercy and justice. A story we’re invited to play a significant role in. A story where change is not waited on, but where change waits on us.
We cannot wait for change to happen – we must enact it. We cannot simply imagine a new world, we must also labor to see change happen ‘on Earth as it is in Heaven.’ We cannot simply attempt to enact change through our vote – we must enact it through our lives and talents, our generosity and sacrifices.
serveLA was created to enact this change – and to provide opportunity for those drawn in by the voice or the echoes. We’ve been actively building relationships with others throughout the city to engage our world at the point of greatest needto further the story of hope through the investment of our time, money, talents passions and person.
